Sevro

Creedmoor Homelife

My husband and I got a puppy. In some respects, it was a snap decision, in others, it was a long time coming. Before getting married, Paul (My husband, for anyone who doesn’t already know that) had been considering getting a dog for a long time. But as with most people was held back by his work schedule. After moving to NC, I found myself itching for a fluffy thing in my home. I was used to various pets growing up and found myself missing the quiet companionship a pet provides. (So, why did you get a puppy?)

Well, Paul and I try and make smart decisions for our current life stage. We discussed the pros and cons of a dog. He hates cats, so getting one of those wasn’t really an option. We thought eventually, we’d perhaps like to have two dogs. Paul liked the idea of getting a Rhodesian Ridgeback. (His family owned them while they were in Africa, and he’s quite fond of the breed. I’d never heard of them before) I on the other hand, would be more than happy with a mutt. Being a typical girl, easily distracted by fluffy things, I began trolling Craiglist for mutt puppies that would appeal to both my husband and I. We figured the Ridgeback would have to wait. They aren’t terribly common, and would be far more expensive than we currently wanted to invest.

Well, of course, I found all sorts of puppies out there, but nothing appealed to the point where we felt ready to take the plunge. Until, the beginning of February. Just a few weeks before our first anniversary, there I was on my usual online puppy patrol. . . . and I found a litter of Ridgeback puppies. This my friends changed the game, a wee bit. It was an opportunity that we felt needed to be taken advantage of, if we really did want to commit to a Ridgeback. The fact that it was around Valentine’s Day and our Anniversary was a delightful perk. In 24 hours, we went from, we should get a puppy, to we’re going to see the puppies and we all know as soon as we see them, we will be taking one home.

That’s how we ended up with a dog for Valentine’s Day. We literally brought him home on Valentine’s Day. He’s pretty cute. As the title suggests, his name is Sevro. He’s a handful, but I’ll say, it is nice finally having a fur-buddy in the house again. And, he’s actually pretty quiet too. . . . all things considered. And now I can hone my pet photography skills. 🙂
